It’s been a while since I have updated this site but I think now is an appropriate time. According to reports, Dollhouse has been canceled by FOX. Although the remaining episodes of the 13 order will be go to air as planned:

This has been a busy week for cancellations. The latest addition to the TV graveyard: Dollhouse.
According to multiple insiders, Fox has informed Joss Whedon that it will not be ordering additional installments of his low-rated drama beyond the current 13-episode order. On the bright side, the network still plans to burn off the remaining unaired episodes beginning in December. Hey, it’s something.
Dollhouse has been averaging a mere 3 million viewers this season. Last season — when fan support, together with significant budget cuts, helped it to get an odds-defying second-year pickup — the show averaged 4.7 million.

I’ll have more to say on this in the coming weeks once we get official confirmation, and I’ll also give my first and final thoughts on the episodes that have aired. Although I had my issues with the direction and quality of the series, it’s never nice when a show that had so much potential gets canceled.

“There’s less pressure on it and when we told Joss what we were going to do, ‘we can give you better time slots, but you’re going to be under a lot of pressure’ I believe what he said to me, ‘I’m actually comfortable staying on, rather than having a bigger rating and the pressure of not being able to see the order through,’”
“We want the same stability we had last year,” says Reilly. “The same ratings would be just fine. We’re looking at the cume as well. I’d like to see it continue its creative consistency, which I believe it will and I want to see a show we can lock in to week in and week out.”

The season finale of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse brought in 152k (0.8%) on Tuesday night, according to early ratings figures.

The episode, shown at 9pm, beat last week’s effort of 111k (0.7%), but failed to top the series opener, which logged 263k (1.3%) for Sci Fi on Tuesday, May 19. A bonus episode not broadcast in the US will air on Sci Fi next week.

Joss Whedon confirms we’ll be seeing more of the “Attic” in season 2, and more of what to expect:

In episode 2.03 we’ll meet a character named Cindy – Cute and smart politician’s wife (think young Hillary Clinton) [SpoilerTV]

Bad news for Dollhouse fans anticpating the season 2 premiere. Fox have announced that it has been pushed back by 1 week:

“DOLLHOUSE will now have its Season 2 premiere on FRIDAY, 9/25 at 9/8c. The date has been pushed back 1 week from the originally announced FRI, 9/18.”

It is not yet clear why season 2 has been delayed – with all the upheaval last season, this news will surely send a few hearts fluttering.

Fans hoping to get their hands on a copy of the limited edition Dollhouse box-set crashed the FoxStore.com site when they went on sale July 6.

The 5000 available sets are one-time Comic Con specials and will be distributed at the San Diego event via booth #1429. Only a limited number of the sets have been made available for online purchase, hence the gold-rush which caused the Fox servers to collapse – a small price to pay for  clever marketing.

The normal DVD and Blu-ray sets go on public release from July 28.

Sci Fi has acquired the UK rights to air season 2 of Dollhouse. The channel will also screen the “unaired” 13th episode, “Epitaph One”, in August.

“We’re thrilled to offer our audience not only all 13 episodes of the first season but also confirmation that Sci Fi has the season two premiere already lined up for later in the year,” said Jon Farrar, programming director for NBC Universal Global Networks in the UK.

He added: “Dollhouse has become a cult hit in the UK and is one of the most talked about and successful show launches of 2009.

“We’ve been relentless in our quest to bring the most entertaining, exciting and in-demand programming to our viewers and Dollhouse has ticked all those boxes and many more.”

After renewing Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse for a second season, Fox have announced that the new season will begin on September 18, as reported by Variety:

The Thursday drama duo “Bones” and “Fringe” return the following night, on Sept. 17, while Friday’s sked (comedies “Brothers” and “Til Death,” and returning drama “Dollhouse”) are back on Sept. 18.

As mentioned last month, the Friday slot will give the show no-let up in challenges. If last season was labelled the “death-slot”, this season could be a kind of purgatory. Still, better that than the alternatives, right? (genuine question right there).

According to reports, Dollhouse will have a super-sized 2 hour panel at next month’s San Diego Comic Con. The reason? So that Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku can answer questions from fans, and so the entire ‘missing’ season 1 episode “Epitaph One” can be screened. The Watcher has more:

I can confirm three things: There will be a “Dollhouse” panel at Comic-Con, “Epitaph One” will be screened and the entire “Dollhouse” session will be two hours long.

The supersized session will take place Friday, July 24, in Ballroom 20, according to Twentieth Century Fox Television. Dushku and Whedon will be serving up “a no-holds-barred Q and A about what they have planned for Season 2″ after the screening of “Epitaph One.” (Whedon and Dushku are the only “Dollhouse” folks participating in this panel, by the way.
