This post contains official character information which has been released by Joss Whedon, Fox and official channels at various intervals, however some may deem it spoilery, so continue at your own discretion.

One of the most intriguing Dollhouse characters in the lead up to the show has to be Dr. Claire Saunders, her scars painting a vivid yet ambiguous picture of her back-story. When I first heard that the character would be scarred, I speculated that the scars might be psychological, and whilst that may also be the case, it’s clear from the above image that Dr. Saunders is physically scarred. Interestingly the scars themselves may reveal a few clues as to how she got them – She has two very prominent scars, one across her forehead and the other underneath her left eye – both of them are very ‘clean’ and precise, almost. This leads me to wonder whether they might be self-inflicted scars? If so, what would drive her to do such a thing?

If someone else inflicted the scars upon her then who..and why? Could Dollhouse manager Adelle DeWitt be the culprit? How about an Active? It wouldn’t surprise me if an active went ‘rogue’ and attacked her.

It’s a clever move by Whedon to make her the doctor – the person who tends to the dolls needs, yet clearly she is pretty broken herself. Another idea which crossed my mind is whether Claire is herself an Active? In the above picture she seems to be smiling lifelessly like Echo is in this image. Are the scars her only reminder of what it’s like to be human? In a sick-twisted way, are the scars the only thing left of her humanity?

Perhaps she isn’t an Active, in which case I question why she has chosen to not to undergo memory-wipe. Clearly she’s had some trauma in her life, so why not choose to forget? Although the Dollhouse is a very unethical set-up, the science behind it, if used with proper consent, can also be viewed as a Godsend to those who simply want to erase the past, even if it means erasing the good memories as well.

I very much doubt that anything in this show will be black or white – it’s a show which will explore the human condition (rarely ever black or white) even if that condition is being reprogrammed by Topher Brink and his ethically questionable mind-wiping machine.

So, what do you make of Claire Saunders and her scars? Feel free to vote in the poll..and come January, we’ll begin to find out how accurate your guesses were.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

How dare anyone have an opinion that isn’t completely positive about Dollhouse or Joss Whedon!:

When: Mid-season

Stars: Eliza Dushku, Olivia Williams, Tahmoh Penikett, Fran Kranz, Dichen Lachman, Enver Giokai
The Skinny: Joss Whedon’s latest TV show about an illegal group that has had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. They then carry out a number of engagements for wealthy and powerful people – from romance, to criminal, to dangerous, to comical to good deeds.

Chances of Survival: I hate to say it. But it is doomed. Sorry Whedon lovers but his track record on Fox with FIREFLY is terrible and the fact they have already had him rewrite it once. Plus, while I love this premise and I think it will be a great show and I will watch every episode, I think for the average viewer it will be too quirky.

In all seriousness this is healthy for the show, Peter Brown , who wrote the piece, simply gives his reasoned opinion on why he thinks the show will fail, that’s what we want right, reasoned opinion? Not everyone is a Whedon die-hard, and that’s a good thing, right? Whilst I don’t buy into the whole ‘Dollhouse being doomed because it’s on FOX’ thing, Peter could be right in that Dollhouse might be too quirky for some viewers. I mean, I know what I want from Dollhouse, I know what I expect, I’m also willing to be surprised, but I don’t want “Buffy”.

Dollhouse has a premise which, in my opinion, offers more credibility and greater scope. Yes Buffy was good, but Dollhouse could be the show that takes his ‘art’ to a whole new level . I still want Whedon’s humour to be in DH, but I hope the show is more serious and ‘real’ in tone. Please make the show more serious and real in tone?

Actually, let’s ask the question. How Quirky do you want Dollhouse to be? Feel free to vote in the poll below:

Anyway, in a bid to find out what all the fuss is about, I’ve created a poll (I like polls):

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

So what is it about this show that appeals to you? Are you a dedicated Whedonite who will follow him to the ends of the earth? Perhaps you’re a big fan of Eliza Dushku or another cast member. Or maybe you’re just in need of some good TV and Dollhouse has the themes to make you gleam?

Whatever the appeal, feel free to cast your vote! Who knows, this time next year you might have found more reasons to like Dollhouse. Or less. It could happen.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Welcome to “The WD – Fans Echo”, the first regular segment from WatchingDollhouse.com. “Fans Echo” is a play-on-words title for our featured poll results, where you, the Dollhouse fans have given your opinion on a particular subject that we have posted.

Now that’s outta the way, let’s take a look at what you guys thought on the subject of SPOILERS. 389 of you voted and the results suggest that when it comes to Dollhouse spoilers 40% of you just don’t want to know, whilst 37% believe that it depends on the context of the spoilers, and only 23% are all for Dollhouse spoiler info.

These results are interesting, if they are representative of the wider Dollhouse community then it would seem that a sizable proportion of you will be wanting more ‘organic’ mystery with the twists and turns being a major part of your DH diet. Personally, I think that this show is ripe for such a viewing preference, not knowing what is going to happen days, weeks or even months ahead of time, will surely add to the enjoyment of the show? Of course there will be spoilers and there is/will be a sizable market for them. Whats more, some people simply enjoy spoilers, fair play, we’re all different.

So what is a spoiler? By my definition (a LOST fan who has been spoiler-free since day one), a spoiler is a canon element of a show that hasn’t yet come to pass on the show itself. So in short, it is information (plot details, character turns, story-arcs etc) which will happen but haven’t yet happened on the show. There is a difference between spoilers and speculation or theories. The latter two are derived from piecing together aspects of the show that have already been televised or hinted, they are not based on a ‘knowledge’ of what is definitely going to happen, but rather, ideas/thoughts and notions of what might transpire or what is likely to happen. There is also a difference between teasers and spoilers, although the disparity between these two is perhaps more murky.

With that said, WD will cater for Dollhouse spoiler-haters and spoiler-lovers, but whenever we post a spoiler, we’ll mark it appropriately, thus giving fair warning to those who prefer not to be spoiled. You might have also noticed that WD now has a spoiler tabin the navbar, for added convenience. If you’re just looking for DH spoilers, simply click on the ‘Spoiler’ tab and you’ll be taken to a page with all of the spoilery stuff WD has ever posted.

We also have an appropriately marked spoiler section over on our forums, which is convenient for both spoiler lovers and spoiler haters (for different reasons). All DH spoiler threads will be posted in this forum, and any mention of spoilers outside of the spoiler forum will be spoiler-tagged (hidden from view unless you choose to view them).

It will be interesting to see how FOX market DH as we approach the January premiere date. By the looks of things the bulk of the fans would prefer them to tease rather than spoil upcoming plot-arcs etc (like some networks do with their shows). Take note FOX – it’s all about the tease. BTW, please don’t click that link unless you want to be teased. Yes, we also offer regular tests of your will-power

*Please note, the above poll closed on Thursday July 30.

Personally I think it’s inevitable that the nearer we get to the January premiere date, more and more spoilers will begin to surface – some, I suspect, will come directly from FOX in a bid to increase awareness and hype.

With that said, where do you stand on the spoiler front? Do you want to experience Dollhouse with spoilers removing the mystery of the show, or do you prefer to peel back the layers of mystique and intrigue on an episode to episode basis?
