Demand for Limited Dollhouse Box Set Crashes Fox Servers

Dollhouse box setFans hoping to get their hands on a copy of the limited edition Dollhouse box-set crashed the site when they went on sale July 6.

The 5000 available sets are one-time Comic Con specials and will be distributed at the San Diego event via booth #1429. Only a limited number of the sets have been made available for online purchase, hence the gold-rush which caused the Fox servers to collapse – a small price to pay forΒ  clever marketing. πŸ˜‰

The normal DVD and Blu-ray sets go on public release from July 28.

It would have been a lot cleverer, if they had actually been prepared for this mess. A lot of people are now angry because their credit cards were billed multiple times. Very sloppy, 20th Century Fox, very sloppy.

But at least they got the preview clip of “Epitaph One” out for everyone to see, not just for the buyers. That’s kind of a neat “Sorry!” πŸ™‚

Yeah, looks like FOX were expecting low demand..or they wanted to mimick the first half of the season. πŸ™‚

I can’t believe anyone would shell out for Season 1 DVD’s. Having watched every minute of S1 as it aired, I have NO desire to rewind and do it again? I’m still astonished that DH is coming back.

I share your sentiments. I’m currently on episode 9 or 10 – probably the best episodes so far, but I don’t forsee myself shelling out for the DVD.
