guess who's back to glitch ya!?
After renewing Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse for a second season, Fox have announced that the new season will begin on September 18, as reported by Variety:
The Thursday drama duo “Bones” and “Fringe” return the following night, on Sept. 17, while Friday’s sked (comedies “Brothers” and “Til Death,” and returning drama “Dollhouse”) are back on Sept. 18.
As mentioned last month, the Friday slot will give the show no-let up in challenges. If last season was labelled the “death-slot”, this season could be a kind of purgatory. Still, better that than the alternatives, right? (genuine question right there).

Definitely better than the alternatives. If this Season proved anything then it was that the combination of pricetag and timeslot was good enough for Fox to order a second season. If Dollhouse continues to be so cheap (and why shouldn’t it?) I think it can really live long in its Friday-niche, basically ignoring the ratings like in S1, but helping Fox’ overall plan for more consistency in programming. It’s a good place to be.
And i meant “consistency” as in “long-term programming that doesn’t vary too much across seasons” not “consistent Friday night”, since that certainly isn’t happening this year with “Brothers” and “‘Til Death”…
I guess it is possible – as you point out there has to be that healthy balance. I don’t think the show can ‘ignore’ ratings completely though. That might have (ultimately) worked for season 1 but can Fox rely on the consistency of fan DVD/media purchases? Especially when another show might do better in ratings AND bring in funds from the fanbase.
You have a pointthough, the show could carve out a niche – it looks like that’s the direction the show is headed – without as much expectation or pressure as it had last season. Ironically, I do think the show was better off in the Friday slot than the Monday.

This place has been dead lately.
I’m hoping to watch 1.09 in the next day or three, so I’ll probably have that review up some time next week. There should also be some news in the build up to Comic Con, so fingers crossed we’ll have something to talk about!
