It certainly wouldn't be much of a stretch to think that Joss could improve on the dismal Season 1 of "Dollhouse". It's a freak of nature that he's even getting the opportunity. The TV gods usually aren't kind to great shows, let alone toe-stubbers like DH.

I must say that bringing in the talent gives me an enthusiasm reboot for this series. If anything makes up for the cancellation of the better of the 2 shows (Sarah Connor as opposed to DH), it's that Joss has taken advantage of the sitch by hiring Summer Glau.

Raising the BSG actor count to 4 (so far) is also a nice touch, and should boost ratings if not the quality of the show. Trisha Helfer surely can't be far behind, having appeared in every TV show imaginable in the last 2 years.

I've been very surprised so far with the lack of big-name casting on that other freshman FOX show, "Fringe". Early days of "Alias" pulled in masterful Tarantino and Dunaway storylines and also featured familiar names like Roger Moore, Christian Slater, Ricky Gervais and Ethan Hawke. While Nimoy is known to all, I wonder if JJ is deliberately taking the opposite approach of Whedon by steering well clear of his previous associations and the cast-offs from other popular shows that have run their course. If so, would Abrams turn to his Rolodex of familiar names if ratings on "Fringe" were in the tank a la "Dollhouse".

Which is the better course of action? Personally, I prefer Whedon's casting approach, but Whedon still has to prove to me that DH is worth watching, regardless of on-screen talent. That's not to imply that Abrams doesn't have a lot of work to do to bring "Fringe" up to it's advertised "thriller" status, either, but even the most die-hard Whedon fans would have to concede that DH, in its inaugural season, has been lapped by "Fringe", albeit with only half as many episodes.

Well, what else can be said but YES! I can't wait for the second season; it looks like it's going to be a much greater season-spanning story arc as well as gaining that needed importance that some viewers were complaining about. I'm not too concerned with Summer Glau getting typecast because Whedon specifically said that if he did get her that he wasn't going to put her directly into another martial-arts style role, so it'll be interesting to see where that goes.

I'm also quite curious how the writers are going to pull off the return of Madeleine/November, after the end of last season. It's looking like Whedon may just follow his own examples and make the second season miles better than the first season. I really can't wait for the second season to start!
