1.01 GHOST

After 11 months and more than 300 posts blogging Dollhouse, here we are, just a few more hours until the premiere episode – 1.01 “Ghost”. I’ve reserved comment in the last couple of weeks, because I felt that the promotion of the show lost touch with the provocative, quirky and wonderful premise that made me start this blog.

However, now I just want to see whether what I loved about the original premise is still there..or whether it’s just a distant memory, a victim of another imprint..

Created, Written, Executive-Produced and Directed by Joss Whedon

(“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Firefly”)

Joss Whedon, creator of groundbreaking cult favorites “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly,” returns to television and reunites with fellow “Buffy” alumna Eliza Dushku in DOLLHOUSE. Echo (Dushku) is an “Active,” a member of a highly illegal and underground group of individuals who have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. Hired by the wealthy, powerful and connected, the Actives don’t just perform their hired roles; they wholly become – with mind, personality and physiology – whomever the client wants or needs them to be. Whether imprinted to be a lover, an assassin, a corporate negotiator or a best friend, the Actives know no other life than the specific engagements they are in at that time. In the series premiere episode, Echo is hired by a businessman to be the ultimate kidnapping negotiator when his young daughter is abducted. Meanwhile, FBI Agent Paul Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett) risks his career in his search for the elusive Dollhouse in the “Ghost” episode of DOLLHOUSE airing Friday, Feb. 13 (9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (DOL-102) (TV-14 D, L, S, V)

Cast: Eliza Dushku as Echo; Tahmoh Penikett as Paul Ballard; Olivia Williams as Adelle DeWitt; Fran Kranz as Topher Brink; Harry Lennix as Boyd Langton; Enver Gjokaj as Lubov; Dichen Lachman as Sierra

I’ve read some absolutely crushing reviews of the pilot lately (3 today alone). With any luck these will turn out to be excellent contrarian indicators. After all, if critics hate it, how bad can it be?

I’ve tried to steer clear of too many reviews prior to the show starting, but I did catch a few and they weren’t good. I guess it’s all a game of opinion.

I’ve just seen the episode and..well, I’ll post my review soon.

That was a “Pilot” ?? .. a pilot should introduce you to the chars , explain the story line , tell you more of the shows ‘idea’ … this was more like episode 2 , where the show just assumes you knew the background and storyline already.

Good show – and i have enjoyed this season , but I’m left feeling as if i missed the “first” episode.

You must buy the DVD from Fox to see the original banned pilot, and end of season 1, Epitath One. Bastards!
