DVR’s Give “Dollhouse” Dynamic Increase

1.03 Stage FrightDollhouse may be plummeting in the Nielsen ratings but, according to THR, the show is performing well on DVR. Looks like I’m not the only one to watch the show on Saturday mornings. Yeah, Friday night is a killer, whatcha gonna do?

According to just-released Live+7 DVR data, the “Dollhouse” premiere episode’s rating increased 30% once time-shifted viewing from later in the week was added in. “Dollhouse” went from a 2.0 adult demo number to a 2.6.

“Dollhouse” lead-in “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” gained even more — 36%.

By comparison, Friday’s most-popular show “Ghost Whisperer” gained 21%, “Flashpoint” climbed 11% and “Numbers” was up 14%.

The “Terminator” and “Dollhouse” gains are considered very high increases for time-shifted viewing, even for a Friday night.

UPDATE: For the week, “Terminator” was the biggest gainer, followed by “90210,” “Scrubs,” “Dollhouse,” “Priviledged” and “Life.” (Adjusted so they’re all rounded to the same point). Here’s the list:
DOLLHOUSEĀ  2.0 to 2.6 = 30% (click link at the end for full list)

I’m not sure what the significance of this is in terms of Fox expectations. Are they being realistic, and viewing “Dollhouse” DVR and Hulu viewing figures as a a sign of a potential fan-base? For the moment, I hope so. Like Eliza Dushku, I’m giving DH until episode 6 or maybe episode 7. It’s impossible for this hot mess not to significantly improve between now and then, right?

Humour me, I have to find some motivation to continue watching Dollhouse. OK, that was just bad.

i think the fact that hulu actually made a commercial promoting themselves by using dollhouse is a sign that fox and hulu are working closely together and that fox is willing to take these numbers into account. hell, maybe i’m just naive, but i think fox will take this as a very good sign unless numbers taper off significantly towards the end of the season.

Good point re: the commerical. It does seem to be a positive sign of cooperation.

I truly hope this news does not come as a surprise to FOX; to be honest, I’m astonished that GHOST WHISPERER does as well as it does on Friday nights and I love that show. Friday nights are just NOT TV nights, in general. Most people don’t watch Friday night television, and since DOLLHOUSE is very much a genre show, as they say, it was clearly NOT a good idea to A) put its first season at the end of the Friday night “death slot” and B) pair it with THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, which is very much a bubble show at this point.

I am very encouraged by your thoughts that the HULU commercial is a good sign of DOLLHOUSE maybe not being cancelled, because DOLLHOUSE actually has similar nightly demographics to TRU CALLING, which was an amazing show that the axe-happy FOX cancelled five episodes into its second season. I hate FOX; if it weren’t for BONES, HOUSE, and now DOLLHOUSE, I’d never watch it.

something for all fans of any show to keep in mind:

DVR ratings DO count… but only if you watch your saved show within 48 hours of the original premiere. I’ve been involved in ‘save show xyz’ campaigns before and this was told to me both by a network executive and a show runner/producer.

something to keep in mind.
