Some naked pics are very appropriate.

Someone in the show even said she bedded most of the city.
Duh!!! The sex thing is (was should get back to it) a major them of the show. A few sexy pictures were LACKING.

Sci-fi and comic book adaptations have always been shameless about dressing up their female stars.

Anna Torv of Fringe isn’t as classic a beauty as Eliza, but she’s realer and kinda hotter, IMHO. The hallucinatory girl-on-girl with the stripper in last week’s episode blew away anything they’ve done with Eliza.

I agree that all this skin is a cheap stunt, an obvious attempt to lure the coveted young male demographic to a show that seems to be clearly all about powerful (and thus perhaps intimidating) women.

But I don’t agree that we can fault Joss or Dollhouse’s creative team for this–FOX markets the show, not Joss or Eliza. In fact, when they DO talk about the show (such as in yesterday’s LA Times article), they paint a very different picture than Eliza in a cold, wet t-shirt.

Hi Whedon Fan,

I agree, I think that they have mis-marketed the show on occasions. That photo was so unnecessary. As you say, it felt like a knee-jerk response to the doom and gloom that surrounded the show.

It’s done and dusted now, and I’m sure that they had the best intentions. Fox have been so very creative with “Fringe”, hopefully some of that good stuff can rub off in promoting this show!

That said, “Dollhouse” has so much potential and an exciting ensemble, hopefully, along with good scripting and production values, this will be the ‘hook’.

I recently found this blog post via random Google searches for dollhouse spoilers haha. I felt the need to post because I think you wrote my exact thoughts, Roco.

It’s really sad that they seem to be so desperate in wanting the show to succeed that they felt the need to resort to this type of marketing. Those pics *ARE* hot, but I mean… I’m just scared of what the show will become if they’re already resorting to sexing up their promos.

It’ll just alienate a lot of people… sort of like what happened with me and Firefly. Even though I’m a huge fan of Whedon, I think Firefly’s marketing was all wrong. I couldn’t even bear to watch the 1st episode because there were like hints of what seemed to be explicit sex scenes, etc. in the FOX promos, which really turned me off. I mean, I don’t want to watch a show like that and have my sisters or parents walk in. I admit I watched all of Firefly recently and just realized what a great show I missed out on. It wasn’t like the weird sci-fi soft core porn that I thought it was. I blame the poor marketing.

I’m still looking forward to Feb 13 anyway though. I hope they don’t overdo the whole “Eliza Dushku is extremely hot with her clothes off” angle.
