Oh, I really do agree -- the philosophical/moral issues presented in "Dollhouse" are one of the main reasons that I watch it, and Joss Whedon is certainly smart and smart-ass enough to play off of society's expectations just to make a statement.

I suppose I particularly get irritated about the clothing issue because I tend to feel that there are more ways to get the point across. But that's just my personal opinion. Either way, I really can't wait for the second season to come on!

I agree that FOX (and a lot of television in general) attempts to sell their shows with sex and that this can distract from the full meaning of any show. Also, unfortunately so, I think that this is a large draw for much of the general population. For this show in particular (not singling out any episodes), I came to believe that the skimpy outfits reflected society's obsession with the surface, and Joss presented the idea that there is more to a person than how "slutty" they look on day to day basis. Although I still believe that many of Echo's outfits fit well for the engagements, I agree that wearing too little clothing can be classless. Perhaps I'm rationalizing the wardrobe because I know that there are deeper, and in my opinion, more important messages presented in the show and I don’t want the clothing to ruin that for me. I think we have similar opinions, just slightly different observations. Do you agree?

I think that's certainly a fair observation, but there were certain times that the clothing just sort of distracted (for instance the go-go gear she wore throughout "Echoes" -- I know that it's explained by the engagement she walked away from, but I found the slutty-schoolgirl look a negative distraction). For me, I guess I think that there are some cases where it's almost classless to have so few clothes on. And even in the promos -- like the remote-free TV thing, where it just panned over a naked Echo with running lights covering her privates. I don't know; it just felt like the packaging, while not entirely, seemed to lean toward FOX's seeming determination lately to sell everything with sex, even when sex isn't what the show is focused on.

Although the dominatrix garb and the ensuing conversation (I forget which episode that was in) was actually very revealing of Echo's handler, I found. Maybe I just saw it differently than you did?

Hmm... In the first season, I saw a lot of interesting dilemmas with newfound technology and profound implications concerning its interaction with human nature as well as individual personalities. Echo's clothing seems to have always fit the engagement for which she was hired. It's interesting that you focused on only one subset of that character's presentation. Everything we say is a projection from which others can determine what we think about ourselves.

Oh, my -- yet more photos of Eliza Dushku fully clothed! I'm starting to have high hopes that this season will actually focus more on the action and the plot than the "see Echo in the SlutWear fashion line" angle that they were so obsessed with last season.

I like the first three. Is there symbolism to the ones after that? I don't see the point of those.
