Tahmoh Penikett Talks Dollhouse at Dragon Con
Here’s a video from Dragon Con 2008 with Tahmoh Penikett talking about Joss Whedon’s upcoming series Dollhouse. He reveals some slight plot spoilers, though nothing really major.
I only took 4 things (of interest) from this:
1. Tahmoh likes to wear shades indoors. You learn something new every day.
2. He revealed that the primary motivation for the Dollhouse “actives” undergoing 5 years of mind-wiping is money. I find this interesting because it was what I suspected but I kinda hoped (and still do) that there will be other motivations or reasons. How cool, if not unethical, would it be if they didn’t volunteer but were forced into it, or if Echo and her buddies genuinely wanted to forget their lives? Think of the possibilities Whedon.
3. Tahmoh prefers the name Paul Ballard over Paul Smith for his Dollhouse character. I must say, so do I. Other than Whedon being an Uber Matrix fan (is he? I don’t know, I’m just wondering), I can’t see why he changed it? I mean ‘Ballard’ is so much cooler, and conveys the dance (if you will) that the character will be embroiled in.
4. The kid in the front row was either very tired or he had a sore neck. Ah, bless the innocence of youth, it seems not everyone is all that interested in what a rather decent actor has to say.

Tahmoh referred a couple times to being super hungover (”I’ll be honest with you, Tahmoh’s feeling a little fragile right now.”) so I think that explains the sunglasses (he wasn’t wearing them at any of his BSG panels). and FYI that kid in the front row was in a wheelchair/some kind of physical handicap. he was definitely very ineterested / he asked the first question. super cute and Tahmoh was very sweet to him.
Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I only had the video to cast opinion on, as I wasn’t at Dragon Con and so didn’t see the two aspects you’re referring to. But thanks for filling me in:)
