Whedon Gets Cabin Fever With Drew Goddard

Whedon Goes into the WoodsJoss Whedon is a busy man, not only has he busy with Dollhouse and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, he’s also hooked back up with Drew Goddard (”Buffy” co-writer) for their MGM thriller Cabin In The Woods:

“Cabin” is the studio’s first movie to get the greenlight from Mary Parent, head of the studio’s worldwide motion picture group. Logline’s being kept under wraps.

Goddard has served as writer and exec producer on “Lost” and most recently wrote the screenplay for “Cloverfield.”

He and Whedon first teamed on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which Whedon created, and also worked together on the “Buffy” spinoff “Angel.” Goddard also worked on “Alias” as a writer and co-producer.

According to Goddard:

“It‘s genius, it‘s funny, It‘s got a harder and darker edge, but it‘s also got classic Whedon qualities. It‘ll rip your heart out and be heartfelt at the same time..There‘s a reason the title is so straightforward, it‘s its own sub–genre, the ‘cabin in the woods‘, and this is sort of our take on it. It‘s fresh and new.”

I can’t say I’m that excited about Cabin in the Woods, but i’m sure it will be worth a look!

  1. Drew Goddard penned a few eppies of “Alias” but they were not my favourites. He’s also on the hook for the fiasco known as “Cloverfield”, so his involvement doesn’t shiver my timbers. However, I will always give Joss a fair chance to impress me, based solely on the gorgeousness that was “Firefly”.

The man’s got street cred, but he needs to follow it up, IMO, cuz I was no huge fan of Buffy. If “Dollhouse” is pure genius, I won’t care whether “Cabin in the Woods” floats or not.

  2. I’m mixed over Cloverfield, but I hand it to JJ for selling a movie on Viral alone!

I agree that Joss needs to follow up on his previous successes (as does any writer/producer). I kinda feel that he hasn’t reached his creative peak yet, and I think Dollhouse could be ‘the one’.
